From Pittsburgh, the quickest (and most scenic) route is:
- Take the Parkway West towards the airport. Exit on US-22 West just
before IKEA, well before you actually get to the airport.. Follow US-22 past the Post-Gazette Pavilion,
past Weirton,
WV, across the Ohio River, past Stuebenville, OH, on towards Cadiz (about 50 miles)
- In Cadiz, take US-250 West towards New Philadephia/Uhrichsville (about 22 miles)
- This is the only tricky part because you will need to take 36-West, but you won't see the sign until it starts, so follow these directions closely. At Uhrichsville/Dennison, take a sharp right to stay on US-250 West, which will become a four-lane expressway. Just after it becomes an expressway at Dennison, there will be a ramp to your right,
directing you to US-250, but don't take it -- instead, stay on the expressway. If you look straight ahead at this exit, you will
finally see an overhead sign for the start of US-36. You will take US-36 West (about 50 miles).
- On US-36 West, you will continue through Gnadenhutten (Huts of Grace) and
Port Washington. After Port Washington, you will cross I-77, where you will
find several gas stations and fast food. Continue on US-36
through Coshocton, where you will need to exit the highway to stay on
US-36. Just past the little town of Newcastle, turn left on OH-229. Cross US 62 and continue
on OH-229 past several Amish homesteads to Gambier
and Kenyon College on your right (about 13 miles).
- An alternative for the last step is to stay on US 36 for another 15 miles
and then turn LEFT onto OH-308, which takes you into the center of Gambier.
The simplified directions are:
- US-22for 50 miles, US-250W for 22 miles, US-36 for 50 miles, OH-229 for 13 miles.
Please send other favorite directions, and I will post them here.
